Chapter 15 - THE END OF THE BEGINNING

The sun dipped below the horizon of the Mediterranean Sea, painting the Amalfi coast in shades of brilliant gold, amber, and violet.

We sat on the private stone terrace of a cliffside villa overlooking the sparkling blue water.

Lily splashed her feet in the infinity pool, laughing as a gentle sea breeze ruffled her dark hair.

In my arms, little Daniel slept soundly, his tiny chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm.

Gabriel sat beside me on the white wicker lounger, pouring two glasses of local white wine.

He handed me a glass, clinking his rim gently against mine.

“To new beginnings,” Gabriel toasted softly, his eyes shining with profound happiness.

“To forever,” I replied, smiling back at him.

We had won our peace.

The enemies who had tried to destroy us were gone, buried under the weight of their own greed and corruption.

The syndicate was transformed, our family was safe, and our future stretched out before us like an endless, beautiful horizon.

Gabriel reached across the small table, interlacing his fingers tightly with mine.

His hands were no longer just the hands of a mafia boss who dealt in violence and shadows.

They were the hands of a loving husband, a devoted father, and a man who had finally found his true home.

Lily ran over, dripping wet from the pool, wrapping her arms around both of us.

“Mommy, Daddy, can we stay here forever?”

Gabriel picked her up effortlessly, swinging her into the air as she giggled with pure delight.

“We can stay as long as you want, sweetheart,” Gabriel said, kissing the top of her head. “Because we never have to run again.”

I leaned my head against Gabriel’s shoulder as the stars began to flicker across the warm Italian night sky.

The nightmare in Chicago was over.

Our fairy tale had finally begun.

THE END.
