Chapter 9 - The Trial Before The Commission And The Final Judgment

The morning sun broke over Chicago with blinding brilliance, casting long, sharp shadows across the marble floors of the Moretti ancestral estate. The grand dining hall—where just days ago Gabriel had tried to humiliate me in front of twenty-six relatives—had been transformed into a formal tribunal chamber. All twenty-four senior capos, regional bosses, and syndicate elders sat in absolute silence around the long mahogany table. At the head of the table sat Nonna Antonella, flanked by legal counsel and regional advisors. And standing in the center of the room, stripped of his custom jacket, his tie loosened, and his hands handcuffed behind his back by Marcus's enforcers, was Gabriel Moretti. I sat three seats down from the matriarch, wearing a sharp, tailored ivory suit that projected absolute authority. Every eye in the room was fixed upon me as I placed the heavy leather briefcase onto the polished wood, unlatched it, and slid the final digital evidence drive across the table toward Salvatore. “The evidence of systemic financial treason, unauthorized foreign asset diversion, and conspiracy against the Moretti family charter has been fully verified by independent forensic auditors,” I announced, my voice carrying clearly across the silent room. “Gabriel Moretti has systematically compromised our shipping terminals, endangered our regional immunity, and plotted to liquidate our ancestral holdings to appease external syndicate interests in New York.” Salvatore picked up the drive, plugged it into the secure terminal built into the table, and watched the encrypted files scroll across the high-definition display. After three agonizing minutes of complete silence, Salvatore looked up, his weathered face carved into a mask of grim determination. “The charges are fully substantiated,” Salvatore declared, looking directly at the fallen syndicate boss. “Under the ancient charter of the Chicago syndicate, any leader who betrays the family trust for personal gain forfeits all rank, all properties, and all rights to the Moretti name.” Gabriel let out a harsh, defeated laugh, his eyes bloodshot and filled with venom as he glared at me one last time. “You think this makes you safe, Claire? The moment I'm gone, the New York syndicates will tear this city apart from the outside in, and you'll be left holding the ashes of a burning empire.” I looked back at him without a single trace of fear, my gaze steady and unyielding. “I'm not holding ashes, Gabriel,” I replied softly. “I'm holding the keys.”
