Chapter 15 - The End of the Shadows

The annual council dinner the following evening was the most heavily guarded event in Chicago’s history. Armed enforcers lined the perimeter, elite security teams monitored every entrance, and the most dangerous men in the underworld sat around the mahogany banquet table in absolute, respectful silence.

At the head of the table sat Gabriel Russo, calm, untouchable, and firmly in command of a united empire.

And seated directly beside him, wearing a stunning midnight-blue silk dress that caught the candlelight, was Clare. Her left arm was unencumbered by braces, fully healed and resting gracefully beside her glass of crystal champagne.

When the other syndicate bosses raised their glasses to toast the new era of stability and strength within the Russo family, Gabriel did not look at his associates. He turned his head slowly, locking his dark, intense eyes with hers, offering a subtle, rare smile that belonged to her alone.
