Chapter 11 - THE FINAL RECKONING

The roaring engine of Marco’s truck tore through the asphalt as we careened away from the burning rail yard.
Sirens wailed in the distance—federal marshals and anti-corruption units finally moving in on coordinates Marco had transmitted twenty minutes earlier.
“You’re bleeding!” I shouted over the engine noise, noticing dark blood soaking through Luca’s tactical jacket.
“It’s just a graze,” Luca grunted, gripping the steering wheel with white knuckles.
“Marco, status?”
“Federal SWAT is raiding Vincenzo’s downtown headquarters right now,” Marco yelled from the passenger seat, reloading a shotgun shell with practiced ease.
“By morning, every asset they own will be frozen by the Department of Justice.”
We didn't head back to the estate.
We headed straight for the Federal Courthouse plaza in downtown Chicago.
As the truck skidded to a halt in front of the massive stone steps, federal agents in tactical gear swarmed the vehicle.
Within minutes, the doors opened.
Handcuffed and dragged out in silver cuffs were Vincenzo Bellini and his daughter Vanessa.
Vanessa’s designer coat was torn and covered in soot.
Her hair was wild, her makeup smeared across her cheeks.
As federal marshals shoved her past the steps, her eyes locked onto mine.
She opened her mouth to scream, but the agent pushed her head down into the cruiser.

Justice wasn't swift.
It was absolute.
