Chapter 14 - THE FINAL PIECE

Three weeks later, the Hollis mansion felt completely different.

The heavy, oppressive gloom that had hung over the halls for months had finally lifted.

Sunlight poured unobstructed through the crystal windows of the grand foyer.

Viviana Sloane’s trial had lasted less than three days; the digital evidence, audio confessions, and financial paper trail provided by Grace were so overwhelming that her defense crumbled immediately.

She was sentenced to multiple consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole.

The corporate board had been restructured, and Damian had restored the Hollis family foundation to its original charitable mission.

Lara was no longer wearing a maid's apron.

She stood in the grand library, wearing a tailored navy blazer, reviewing the new security protocols Grace had designed.

The heavy oak door swung open, and Damian walked in.

He looked healthier, the heavy lines of stress around his eyes finally smoothed away.

"You're working too hard again," Damian said softly, leaning against the edge of the bookshelf with a gentle smile.

Lara looked up from her laptop and closed the screen.

"Somebody has to keep this place running, Mr. Hollis," Lara teased lightly.

"Call me Damian," he reminded her for the hundredth time, stepping closer.

Lara smiled, her heart doing a familiar flutter. "Alright... Damian."

He reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

"The board approved the new scholarship fund in your mother's name," Damian said quietly.

"It starts next month."

Lara felt tears prick the corners of her eyes.

"Thank you," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "That means everything to me."

"It’s the least I could do after everything you endured," Damian replied, his gaze warm and steady.

Suddenly, the library door pushed open further.

Grace stood on the threshold, holding a thick folder in her arms.

"Interrupting?" Grace asked dryly, though a knowing smirk played on her lips.

Damian laughed, stepping back and shaking his head. "Never. What do you have there, Grace?"

"Just the final audit of Viviana's hidden assets," Grace said, walking over and dumping the thick stack of papers onto the desk.

"Every single penny has been recovered and reinvested."

Damian looked at his daughter with immense pride, then glanced back at Lara.

"I think," Damian said, wrapping one arm around Lara's waist and resting his other hand on Grace's shoulder, "we finally have our house back."

Lara leaned into his side, feeling a profound sense of peace wash over her.

The shadows were gone.

And their future was finally their own.
