Chapter 15 - The Dynasty of the TidesA year later, the Atlantic City coastline looked entirely different.

The rotting wooden piers of Pier 14 had been replaced with state-of-the-art concrete berths capable of handling the largest container ships in the world. The unlisted shoreline tunnels were sealed, secured, and monitored by twenty-four-hour digital surveillance grids.
And at the center of it all stood the Thorne-Moretti estate—a fortress of untouchable wealth, absolute justice, and unyielding loyalty.
Inside the private master study overlooking the roaring Atlantic, the evening fire crackled warmly against the hearth.
Maya sat behind the mahogany desk—not as a captive or a consultant, but as the true co-sovereign of the coast—reviewing architectural blueprints for the new municipal marine hospital funded entirely by the maritime trust.
I walked into the study carrying two crystal glasses of amber bourbon, setting one down on the desk beside her blueprints.
She looked up, swirling the golden liquid in her glass, and smiled as I leaned down to press a kiss to the crown of her head.
“Thinking about expanding the port again, Chief Engineer?” I teased softly.
Maya set her glass down, standing up and wrapping her arms around my neck, the Moretti signet ring catching the firelight as it rested against the lapel of my shirt.
“No expansion tonight, Dante,” she whispered, her seawater-colored eyes locking onto mine with absolute, unconditional devotion. “The foundation is set. The harbor is safe. And the tide belongs to us.”
I wrapped my arms securely around her waist, pulling her close as the waves crashed against the stone seawall far below.
The crypt was sealed.
The past was buried.
