THE MAFIA'S DIAMOND PHANTOM / Chapter 13 / 15

Chapter 13 - Cleaning House along 47th StreetOn the evening before our wedding, our family gathered in the private dining salon of the penthouse for an intimate, peaceful celebration.

There were no armed bodyguards checking identification at the gates. No tension in the air.

The long mahogany table was covered with a simple, elegant white linen cloth, illuminated by soft candlelight and decorated with fresh white hydrangeas and fragrant sprigs of rosemary.

The people seated around the table were the true, honorable foundation of our new life:

Marcus Falcone, sitting tall and proud in his bespoke navy blazer, laughing as he shared stories of the old days with Frank Moretti.

Donna Francesca, looking radiant and healthy in an emerald velvet dress, sitting beside Mrs. Gable, laughing as they poured sparkling cider into everyone’s glasses.

Thomas Miller, sitting beside Dr. Arthur Mercer, looking sharp and proud in his tailored tuxedo, reviewing blueprints for the new deep-water diver training academy.

Assistant US Attorney Marcus Vance, sitting as an honored guest alongside senior maritime union leaders from the docks.

And at the head of the table sat Gabriel Vance, looking more relaxed, powerful, and peaceful than he had ever appeared in his life.

At eight o'clock, I tapped my wine glass with my silver dessert spoon.

The room fell into an eager, affectionate hush.

I stood up, my deep, resonant baritone carrying clearly to every soul in the vaulted room.

"Seven years ago," I began, my gray eyes shining with an emotion so deep it made Elena’s heart overflow, "this house was plunged into darkness by greed, treachery, and hidden poison. We believed that an empire was built on fear, silence, and iron fists."

I looked directly at Elena, then down at Leo, and finally at my mother, my smile radiant and full of love.

"Elena and Leo brought the truth back to this table. They reminded us that an empire that does not protect the people who sweat in its vaults is an empire built on sand. They taught me that true power is the courage to stand unbroken, to defend the sacred ground of our workers, and to love without fear."

I raised my glass of vintage Barolo high into the air.

"To Donna Elena! To Leo! To Donna Francesca! And to the eternal honor of the Vance dynasty!"

Every single person in the room stood to their feet, raising their glasses in a joyous, heartfelt cheer:

"To Donna Elena! To Don Gabriel! Viva la famiglia!"

Leo tapped his silver tuning hammer against his water goblet, laughing happily, while Falcone clapped his hands with unbridled joy.

I pulled Elena gently to my feet, my arms wrapping around her, my lips meeting hers in a tender, lingering kiss that sealed our family's redemption forever.
