THE MAFIA'S SHADOW DOWAGER / Chapter 10 / 15

Chapter 10 - Bloodlines of the North Side DynastyTwo weeks later, on a crisp, sunlit Saturday afternoon, Alexander, Donna Francesca, and Maya brought fresh white calla lilies to the historic cemetery on the North Shore overlooking the lake.

The cemetery was quiet, peaceful, and bathed in golden autumn light that filtered through the ancient oak trees.

They walked down a secluded gravel path until they reached a beautiful, shaded plot surrounded by blooming white hydrangeas and fragrant rosemary bushes.

Standing beneath a towering granite cross was the newly restored tomb of Don Antonio Moretti:

Antonio Moretti (1940–2014) — Sovereign of the Lakes, An Honest Don.

Fresh bouquets of white calla lilies, red roses, and fragrant sweet basil rested at the base of the stone.

Donna Francesca knelt beside her late husband’s headstone, resting her weathered hand on the carved granite, her slate-gray eyes bright with tears of profound, eternal peace.

“We brought the truth home, Antonio,” the Dowager whispered softly through her tears. “The traitors are broken. The foundries are clean. The shadows are gone forever.”

Alexander stepped forward, kneeling beside his mother on the gravel path, his hand resting respectfully on the stone.

“Your house is in honorable hands, Dad,” Alexander murmured, his deep baritone thick with resonant emotion. “The woman who saved Mother stands at our table. In this house, your courage will never be forgotten.”

Maya knelt beside them, placing Donna Francesca’s silver falcon signet ring beside the lilies on the stone—its silver polished until it shone like mirror glass in the autumn sun.

“Thank you, Don Antonio,” Maya murmured softly. “We will protect the family forever.”

Alexander stood up, pulling his mother and Maya into his arms, wrapping his heavy wool overcoat around both of them, shielding them from the lake wind.

He reached into his pocket and produced an antique silver pocket watch that had belonged to his grandfather, sliding the chain into Maya’s palm.

“Our family is whole, Maya. The water will never rise above our heads.”
