Chapter 12

THE ARRIVAL OF THE LAW

The cabin door hissed as the emergency stairs were deployed from outside.

Heavy tactical boots echoed up the metal steps.

Captain Miller of the State Police stepped into the cabin first.

His service weapon was drawn and ready for action.

He took in the chaotic scene in a single sweeping glance.

Bastian standing over a defeated, sobbing Rosalyn.

Mira holding a recovering Evan tightly in her arms.

"Stand down, Mr. Calder," Captain Miller ordered cautiously.

"Everyone keep your hands where I can see them."

Bastian slowly stepped off Rosalyn, raising his hands.

"She’s the one you want, Captain," Bastian said calmly.

"Attempted murder, corporate espionage, and terrorism."

"Her accomplice, Sarah Miller, is currently tied up in my manor vault."

Two armed officers rushed past the captain to cuff Rosalyn.

Rosalyn thrashed and screamed as the cold steel clicked on her wrists.

"You haven't won, Calder!" she shrieked hysterically.

"My father’s associates will finish what I started!"

"You’ll never be safe in that cursed mansion!"

The officers dragged her out of the cabin into the pouring rain.

Captain Miller holstered his weapon, letting out a long breath.

"Are you and the boy alright, Bastian?" the captain asked.

"My son needs an ambulance immediately," Bastian replied firmly.

"He was poisoned with a neurotoxin."

"Get him to St. Jude’s Memorial Hospital under armed guard."

Mira gently cradled Evan as paramedics rushed into the jet cabin.

They placed the little boy onto a portable stretcher with oxygen.

"I’m going with him," Mira stated, her voice unyielding.

Bastian looked down at the brave housemaid with deep gratitude.

"We all go together," Bastian said softly.

They descended the aircraft stairs into the blinding rain.

A fleet of police cruisers and ambulances lit up the tarmac.

Evan was safely loaded into the back of an intensive care unit van.

Mira climbed in right beside him, holding his small hand.

Bastian followed closely, closing the heavy medical doors behind them.

As the ambulance siren wailed into the stormy night, Bastian looked out.

He knew the immediate threat had been neutralized.

Yet a lingering chill settled deep within his bones.

Rosalyn’s parting words echoed ominously in his mind.

*My father’s associates will finish what I started.*
