Chapter 15

THE DAWN OF A NEW BEGINNING

The golden rays of early morning sunlight pierced through the estate windows.

The autumn storm had completely cleared, leaving a crisp, brilliant dawn.

At St. Jude’s Memorial Hospital, Evan sat up in bed, happily eating pancakes.

Dr. Vance gave him a clean bill of health with a wide smile.

"You’re tougher than you look, young man," the doctor chuckled.

Evan grinned brightly, looking over toward the doorway.

Mira walked into the hospital suite carrying a fresh vase of yellow roses.

Her face was radiant, free from the heavy shadow of fear.

Bastian followed right behind her, carrying a small gift box.

"How are you feeling today, captain?" Bastian asked warmly.

"Much better, Dad!" Evan cheered, holding up his fork.

"And Bruno is coming home from the vet clinic this afternoon!"

Mira laughed softly, her eyes crinkling at the corners.

She set the flowers gently on the bedside table.

Bastian reached out, placing a gentle hand on Mira’s shoulder.

"Thanks to you, my son is alive," Bastian said softly.

"You showed incredible bravery when everyone else crumbled."

Mira looked up into Bastian’s kind, striking grey eyes.

A warm blush crept across her cheeks.

"I only did what any mother—what any person would do," she whispered.

Bastian smiled, a genuine, rare smile that lit up his entire face.

He handed the small gift box to Mira.

"Open it," Bastian instructed gently.

Mira carefully untied the silver ribbon and lifted the lid.

Inside lay a golden key and a formal employment contract.

It wasn't just a housemaid contract.

It was an appointment as the Director of Estate Operations and Family Protector.

Along with an invitation to sit at the family table as an equal partner.

Mira looked up, tears of joy welling in her lower eyelids.

"Bastian... I don't know what to say," she choked out.

"Say you’ll stay," Bastian said, taking her hand in his.

"Not just for Evan, but for us."

Evan clapped his hands together excitedly from the bed.

"Say yes, Mira! Please say yes!"

Mira let out a watery, joyful laugh and nodded.

"Yes," she whispered, squeezing his hand tightly.

Outside, the grand gates of Calder Manor stood tall and secure.

The shadows of the past had finally been swept away by the morning light.

Justice had been served, the guilty were facing their reckoning.
