Chapter 12 - A Father’s Ruthless ProtectionIn early December, the federal trial of Salvatore Bellini, Vanessa Bellini, and Marcus Vance concluded with devastating, historic finality.

With the uncorrupted cloud recordings, the recovered forensic brake analysis, and the financial audit of the Swiss accounts, the jury deliberated for less than three hours before returning guilty verdicts on all counts.

Salvatore Bellini was sentenced to consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole at ADX Florence in Colorado.

Marcus Vance was sentenced to thirty-five years for corporate conspiracy and evidence tampering.

Vanessa Bellini was sentenced to twenty-eight years at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, for grand larceny, attempted extortion, and criminal conspiracy against a minor.

Her luxury trust accounts, her designer wardrobes, and her family’s private penthouses were completely liquidated by court decree, with seventy-five percent of the recovered capital transferred directly into the Sarah Moretti Memorial Children’s Hospital in Chicago.

On the afternoon following the sentencing, Luca took me to the newly renovated logistics headquarters on Pier 14.

A crowd of over four hundred dockworkers, warehouse handlers, and administrative staff had gathered in the terminal atrium for the annual holiday address.

Above the main loading bay, carved in gleaming stainless steel, were the words:

MORETTI MARITIME CORPORATION — BUILT ON TRUTH, PROTECTED BY HONOR.

Luca stood at the podium in his tailored charcoal suit, his presence commanding absolute, undisputed respect.

“For decades, this waterfront operated under the shadow of fear, kickbacks, and broken promises,” Luca addressed the crowd, his resonant baritone echoing across the cavernous terminal. “That era is officially dead. This company belongs to the working men and women who keep our ships moving. Every dollar made in this port will be accounted for, and every family under our flag will be protected.”

He looked toward the front row, where Rosa, Sophie, and I were standing together.

He smiled—a wide, proud smile that lit up the entire room—and raised his hand toward us.

“To family,” Luca said. “The only thing worth fighting for.”

The entire terminal erupted into thunderous, room-shaking applause that echoed across the icy waters of Lake Michigan.
