Chapter 7 - The Arrest of the Concrete King

At 3:00 AM, while the city of New York slept beneath a blanket of pure, glittering snow, three federal task force units and forty of Gabriel’s tactical operators breached the private estate in the Hamptons where Don Henri Laurent—Camilla’s father—was preparing to board a private helicopter for Montreal.
Henri Laurent—sixty-five years old, wearing an eight-thousand-dollar cashmere coat, clutching two flight cases packed with bearer bonds—was tackled onto the freezing lawn by federal marshals before he could reach the helipad.
Assistant United States Attorney Marcus Vance stepped out of the command vehicle, unrolling the eighty-four-page indictment returned by the emergency grand jury.
“Don Henri Laurent,” Prosecutor Vance announced, his voice carrying clearly across the windy estate. “You are under arrest for federal racketeering, commercial wire fraud, and the interstate human trafficking of domestic laborers.”
Henri looked up from the wet grass, weeping in blind, desperate agony as the steel cuffs snapped around his wrists.
“Where is Camilla? Where is my daughter?”
“Your daughter is currently sitting in a federal holding cell in lower Manhattan, Henri,” Prosecutor Vance replied with cold finality. “Her bail has been denied. Every concrete batching plant, every transport barge, and every offshore account bearing the Laurent name has been seized under the joint authority of the federal court and the Thorne Maritime Trust.”
Within four hours, the entire eighty-million-dollar Laurent dynasty was dismantled across two states.
Their penthouses on Park Avenue, their private yachts in Montauk, and their commercial transport fleet were completely liquidated by federal court decree.
Seventy-five percent of the recovered capital—over sixty million dollars—was transferred directly into the newly chartered Maya and Chloe Lin Foundation for Domestic Workers, providing free legal defense, emergency medical subsidies, and safe housing for thousands of working women across the Five Boroughs.
Rosa Morales—the fifty-one-year-old mother of three who had been dismissed by Camilla two weeks earlier—was tracked down in Queens by Marcus’s team.
She was brought directly to the Thorne mansion, where Gabriel personally handed her a check for two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in severance, alongside the deed to a three-story brownstone in Astoria and a lifetime appointment as Chief of Staff for the foundation.

The old server wept openly on the marble floor of the foyer, kissing Gabriel’s hands, before throwing her arms around me in a fierce, tearful embrace that washed away eight years of hidden pain.
