Chapter 15 - The Sovereign Queen of Pinehaven

Six months later, the bells of the historic Cathedral of Saint Mark in Minneapolis rang out in a joyous, triumphant chorus that echoed across the city and the northern forests.
It was our wedding day.
Over six hundred guests filled the towering stone cathedral—governors, international trade ambassadors, regional logging captains, mill workers from my father’s old union, and domestic staff from across the state, who occupied the front pews of honor.
Walking down the long marble aisle on the proud, steady arm of seventy-year-old Arthur Henderson, I wore an exquisite, hand-stitched ivory lace gown with a cathedral train that swept fourteen feet behind me.
Around my neck glowed my father’s sapphire necklace, and sparkling on my finger was the Founder’s Ring.
At the altar stood Nathaniel Mercer.
He looked breathtakingly handsome in his bespoke black tuxedo, his broad shoulders squared, his gray eyes watching me approach with a look of awe and adoration so pure it made my soul soar.
Standing beside him as his best man was Matteo, sharp and proud in his formal uniform.
And sitting in the seat of highest honor in the front pew, dressed in an elegant lavender silk gown, was my fully recovered sister, smiling through tears of radiant, sisterly pride.
When Arthur Henderson placed my hand into Nathaniel’s, Nathaniel leaned down, whispering against my ear with a voice thick with emotion:
“You are my home, Clara. Today, tomorrow, and for all eternity.”
“And you are mine, Nathaniel,” I whispered back with a radiant smile.
We exchanged our sacred vows before Archbishop Marino, sealing our union with a kiss that brought the entire six hundred guests to their feet in a thunderous, standing ovation that shook the stained-glass windows of the cathedral.
That evening, the grand wedding reception at Pinehaven Manor was a celebration unlike anything the northern syndicate had ever witnessed.
There were no whispered betrayals, no concealed daggers, and no fear.
The ballroom glittered beneath three massive crystal chandeliers, filled with glorious music, joyous laughter, clinking glasses, and the genuine warmth of an empire reborn under justice and honor.
Beneath the central chandelier, Nathaniel and I shared our first dance as husband and wife to a slow, sweeping waltz played by a full orchestra.
He held me close against his chest, his strong hand warm and possessive on the small of my back, spinning me across the polished marble floor where, eight months earlier, my heart had been broken.
“Are you happy, my queen?” Nathaniel murmured, his lips brushing against my temple.
I looked up into the gray, loving eyes of the man who had torn down an empire of vipers to protect me and restore my family.
“I have never been happier, Nathaniel,” I smiled, resting my cheek against his lapel. “The payroll clerk is gone. And our house is finally whole.”
Across the ballroom, my sister was laughing with Arthur Henderson by the terrace doors, while Matteo toasted with regional captains by the hearth.
We stood together in the brilliant light of our home, knowing that our foundation was built on truth, loyalty, and an unbreakable love that no syndicate, no poison, and no storm could ever tear apart.
