Chapter 10 - Bloodlines of the Calumet HarborTwo weeks later, on a crisp, sunlit Saturday afternoon, Dante, Antonio, and Clara brought fresh white calla lilies to the historic cemetery on the North Shore overlooking the lake.

The cemetery was quiet, peaceful, and bathed in golden autumn light that filtered through the ancient oak trees.

They walked down a secluded gravel path until they reached a beautiful, shaded plot surrounded by blooming white hydrangeas and fragrant rosemary bushes.

Standing beneath a towering granite cross was the headstone of Dante’s mother, Donna Maria Bellini:

Maria Bellini (1955–2006) — The Heart of the Dynasty, A Mother of Honor.

Fresh bouquets of white calla lilies, red roses, and fragrant sweet basil rested at the base of the stone.

Don Antonio knelt beside his late wife’s headstone, resting his hand on the carved granite, his dark eyes bright with tears of profound, eternal peace.

“We brought the truth home, Maria,” Antonio whispered softly. “The house is clean. Dante has an angel at his side. Our bloodline is secure forever.”

Dante stepped forward, kneeling beside his father on the gravel path, his hand resting respectfully on the stone.

“Your emerald is home, Mother,” Dante murmured, his deep baritone thick with resonant emotion. “The woman who saved Father wears it today. In this house, your honor will never be forgotten.”

Clara knelt beside them, placing the antique silver cross—its lion polished until it shone like mirror glass in the autumn sun—beside the lilies on the stone.

“Thank you, Donna Maria,” Clara murmured softly. “We will protect the family forever.”

Dante stood up, pulling Clara into his arms, wrapping his heavy cashmere overcoat around her shoulders, shielding her and little Gabriel from the lake wind.

He reached into his pocket and produced an antique silver pocket watch that had belonged to his grandfather, sliding the chain into Clara’s palm.

“Our family is whole, Clara. The winter will never touch us again.”
