Chapter 14 - The Final Stanza Sung at Dawn

The morning after the gala, the winter sun broke through the coastal fog in a brilliant sheet of gold over the private harbor slipway.
The water was calm, reflecting the rose-and-amber clouds that stretched across the Atlantic horizon.
Julian, Lily, and I walked down the wooden pier to where the newly christened flagship The Sovereign Maria lay moored against the rubber fenders.
The air was cold, crisp, and clean, carrying the fresh scent of ocean salt and blooming pine.
Lily ran ahead along the boardwalk, her small hand trailing along the polished teak railing, giggling as the harbor gulls circled overhead.
Julian stopped beside me, wrapping his arm around my waist, pulling me gently against his solid, warm chest.
I rested my head against his shoulder, looking out over the deep, endless blue of the bay where our freighters moved with quiet, unshakeable grace.
“Do you remember the words, Chiara?” Julian asked softly into the morning breeze.
I smiled, closing my eyes, letting the ancient Gaelic melody rise naturally from my chest:
“Weave the ribbon, silver spun,
Child of tide and child of sun,
Sleep until the night is done,
Blood and water beat as one.”
Lily stopped at the end of the pier, turning around, her bright hazel eyes shining with unbridled joy as she sang the final notes with me.
Julian pulled both of us close, his strong arms holding us tight against the sea wind.

“Blood and water beat as one,” Julian whispered into my hair. “And nothing will ever tear this house apart again.”
