Chapter 10 - The Sister’s Sanctuary

From the garden below, the sound of laughter drifted up to the terrace.

My sister, Claire, was running through the olive grove, chasing two young German

shepherd pups.

She looked radiant.

Her cheeks were pink with health.

She had been enrolled in the premier seaside academy in Ajaccio.

No more threats.

No more debts.

Claire ran up the stone steps, holding a bunch of wild lavender.

“Sylvie! Look what the head gardener gave me!”

She stopped when she saw Dominic, bowing her head slightly.

“Good morning, Mr. Moreau.”

Dominic smiled warmly, standing up.

“You don't need to bow in this house, Claire. Call me Dominic.”

He reached into his pocket and handed her a small leather pouch.

“The stablemaster says the bay mare is ready for your riding lesson.”

Claire beamed with joy.

“Thank you, Dominic!”

She gave me a quick hug and sprinted toward the equestrian ring.

I watched her go, my heart overflowing with emotion.

“You've given her a paradise, Dominic.”

“She earned it by having a sister like you,” he murmured.
