Chapter 7 - A Scent of Sweet Olive and Burning TapeChristian stood up from the head of the table.

He towered over the assembly, six-foot-three of unyielding, sovereign authority.

“My price, Salvatore,” Christian said, his deep baritone cutting through the silence of the room, “is unconditional surrender.”

He pointed a scarred finger toward the mahogany table.

“You will sign over every deep-water berth, every freight terminal, and every transport barge operating under the Moretti flag between Houston and Tampa. The Moretti syndicate ceases to exist as an independent entity as of two o'clock this morning.”

Salvatore’s hands trembled violently against his overcoat.

“And Bianca?”

“Bianca will be handed over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation alongside Arthur Vance,” Christian replied with chilling finality. “She will be tried in open federal court for the Pontchartrain bombing. She will spend the next thirty-five years at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut. She will eat prison bread. She will scrub prison floors. And she will never look upon the waters of this city again.”

Salvatore closed his eyes, two heavy tears carving clean tracks through the grime on his weathered cheeks.

He nodded once. A slow, broken gesture of total annihilation.

“Bring the contracts,” Salvatore whispered.

For the next forty-five minutes, while the rain beat against the courtyard glass, thirty-two separate property transfers, maritime charters, and corporate surrender deeds were signed across the mahogany table.

Under Christian’s direction, fifty percent of the entire commercial revenues from the newly acquired Moretti terminals were permanently assigned to the newly chartered Elena and Leo Morales Foundation for Renal Care and Pediatric Health.

The foundation immediately funded the complete renovation of dialysis clinics across Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Bernard parishes, providing free, state-of-the-art medical treatments for thousands of low-income working families.

At 2:45 AM, the final document was stamped with Christian’s family signet ring.

Salvatore Moretti turned on his heel and walked out into the rain, accompanied by his silent capos, stripped of his empire, his fleet, and his name.

Silence returned to the grand dining hall.

Pure, clean, and vast.

Christian turned away from the table.

He walked over to where I sat in the velvet chair.

He knelt down on one knee directly onto the marble floor before me, his massive, scarred frame bringing his amber eyes level with mine.

He reached into his breast pocket and produced an antique velvet jeweler’s box lined with white silk.

My heart began to hammer against my ribs like a trapped bird.
