Chapter 14 - The Oxygen Trust Restored

On the evening before our wedding, our family gathered in the private dining salon of the penthouse for an intimate, peaceful celebration.
There were no armed bodyguards checking identification at the gates. No tension in the air.
The long mahogany table was covered with a simple, elegant white linen cloth, illuminated by soft candlelight and decorated with fresh white hydrangeas and fragrant sprigs of rosemary.
The people seated around the table were the true, honorable foundation of our new life:
Marcus Falcone, sitting tall and proud in his bespoke navy blazer, laughing as he shared stories of the old days with Dante.
My mother, looking radiant and healthy in an emerald velvet dress, sitting beside Mrs. Gable, laughing as they poured sparkling cider into everyone’s glasses.
Dr. Elena Aris, sitting beside Assistant US Attorney Marcus Vance, reviewing architectural blueprints for the new pulmonary trauma wing.
And at the head of the table sat Marco Santoro, looking more relaxed, powerful, and peaceful than he had ever appeared in his life.
At eight o'clock, Marco tapped his wine glass with his silver dessert spoon.
The room fell into an eager, affectionate hush.
Marco stood up, his deep, resonant baritone carrying clearly to every soul in the vaulted room.
“Eight months ago,” Marco began, his gray eyes shining with an emotion so deep it made my heart overflow, “this house was governed by men who believed that power was measured by fear, isolation, and iron fists. We were ready to seal an alliance built on deceit, greed, and stolen fleets.”
He looked directly at me, then down at my mother, his smile radiant and full of love.
“Clara Vance brought the truth back to this table. She reminded us that an empire that does not protect the people who carry its trays is an empire built on sand. She taught me that true power is the courage to stand unbroken when everyone else is silent.”
He raised his glass of vintage port high into the air.
“To Donna Clara! To Evelyn! And to the eternal honor of the Santoro dynasty!”
Every single person in the room stood to their feet, raising their glasses in a joyous, heartfelt cheer:
“To Donna Clara! To Don Marco! Viva la famiglia!”
My mother wiped tears of pure joy from her cheeks, while Falcone clapped his hands with unbridled joy.

Marco pulled me gently to my feet, his arms wrapping around me, his lips meeting mine in a tender, lingering kiss that sealed our family's redemption forever.
