THE MAFIA'S BLIND MATRIARCH / Chapter 10 / 15

Chapter 10 - Bloodlines of the Ligurian CoastTwo weeks later, on a crisp, sunlit Saturday afternoon, Christian, Donna Isabella, and Teresa brought fresh white calla lilies to the historic cemetery on the cliffs of Eze overlooking the sea.

The cemetery was quiet, peaceful, and bathed in golden autumn light that filtered through the ancient maritime cypresses.

They walked down a secluded gravel path until they reached a beautiful, shaded plot surrounded by blooming white hydrangeas and fragrant rosemary bushes.

Standing beneath a towering granite cross was the memorial cenotaph of Christian’s grandfather, Don Antonio Vance:

Antonio Vance (1940–2018) — Sovereign of the Waves, A Man of Honor.

Fresh bouquets of white calla lilies, red roses, and fragrant sweet basil rested at the base of the stone.

Donna Isabella knelt beside her late husband’s monument, resting her weathered hand on the carved granite, her sightless eyes serene beneath her dark glasses.

“We brought the truth home, Antonio,” the Dowager whispered softly through her tears. “The traitors are broken. The channels are clean. The Calypso has been avenged.”

Christian stepped forward, kneeling beside his grandmother on the gravel path, his hand resting respectfully on the stone.

“Your house is in honorable hands, Nonno,” Christian murmured, his deep baritone thick with resonant emotion. “The woman who saved Nonna stands at our table. In this house, your courage will never be forgotten.”

Teresa knelt beside them, placing the heavy titanium key stamped with the three-headed serpent beside the lilies on the stone—its metal polished until it shone like mirror glass in the Mediterranean sun.

“Thank you, Don Antonio,” Teresa murmured softly. “We will protect the family forever.”

Christian stood up, pulling his grandmother and Teresa into his arms, wrapping his heavy wool overcoat around both of them, shielding them from the coastal wind.

He reached into his pocket and produced an antique silver pocket watch that had belonged to his grandfather, sliding the chain into Teresa’s palm.

“Our family is whole, Teresa. The water will never rise above our heads.”
