THE MAFIA'S BROKEN EMPEROR / Chapter 10 / 16

Chapter 9 - The Broken Pinstripe SuitTwo weeks later, on a crisp, sunlit Saturday afternoon, Dante, Elena, and Toby brought fresh lavender to the private cemetery overlooking the bay in Brigantine.

The cemetery was quiet, peaceful, and bathed in golden autumn light that filtered through the ancient maritime pines.

Standing beneath a towering white marble cross was the newly restored crypt of Sofia Corelli:

Sofia Corelli (1988–2021) — The Voice of Honor, Sovereign of the Music.

Fresh bouquets of white calla lilies, red roses, and fragrant sweet lavender rested at the base of the marble sarcophagus.

Elena knelt beside her sister’s tomb, resting her hand on the polished stone, her eyes bright with tears of profound, eternal peace.

“We brought the music home, Sofia,” Elena whispered softly through her tears. “Your boy is safe. Dante is whole. The shadows are gone forever.”

I stepped forward, kneeling beside her on the gravel path, resting my hand respectfully on the stone.

“Your song saved my life, Sofia,” I murmured, my deep baritone thick with resonant emotion. “Your nephew holds the crown. In this house, your courage will never be forgotten.”

Toby knelt between us, placing the small steel tuning fork beside the lilies on the stone—the identical tool he had used to wake the Emperor from the dark.

“Thank you, Auntie Sofia,” Toby whispered. “We will protect the piano forever.”

I stood up, pulling Elena and Toby into my arms, wrapping my heavy shearling overcoat around all three of us, shielding them from the salt wind blowing off the ocean.

I reached into my pocket and produced an antique silver pocket watch that had belonged to my father, sliding the chain into Toby’s palm.

“Our family is whole, Elena,” I murmured, kissing her temple with infinite gentleness. “The storm will never touch us again.”
