THE MAFIA'S TITANIUM THRONE / Chapter 13 / 15

Chapter 13 - Cleaning House along the HarborThe following three weeks were a whirlwind of joyous celebration and new beginnings.

Under Rose’s direction, the Keller Foundation established an independent legal defense clinic in South Brooklyn—providing free tenant defense, medical advocacy, and emergency financial relief for working-class families facing corporate exploitation.

The domestic and technical staff at the estate and Morelli Shipping were given permanent employment contracts with full pension benefits, union wages, and comprehensive healthcare coverage under the newly chartered Moretti Maritime Accord.

Mrs. Gable was promoted to Chief of Estate Administration, overseeing a fully staffed, respectful household where no worker was ever treated as an invisible servant.

One Saturday morning in July, Rose walked into the grand ballroom of the mansion.

The room had been completely remodeled, its dark, foreboding tapestries replaced with warm cream linen and expansive glass viewing bays overlooking the harbor.

Beside the central fireplace rested a custom silver shadowbox lined with dark red velvet, with a brass plaque reading:

THE COPPER WIRE BENEATH THE ARMREST — DEDICATED TO MIA KELLER, WHOSE PIN WOKE THE MONARCH.

Inside the shadowbox, preserved beneath museum-grade crystal, was the small steel hairpin and severed copper wire from that fateful afternoon, polished and clean, mounted beside an antique pair of silver drafting dividers.

Rose stood before the shadowbox, her fingers gently touching the crystal frame, feeling no pain, no fear—only the deep, unshakeable triumph of a family that had walked through the fire and emerged unbroken.

Footsteps sounded softly on the parquet floor.

Alexander walked into the salon, carrying eight-year-old Mia on his broad shoulders.

Mia reached down, giggling happily, her tiny fingers tangling in his dark hair, before pointing toward the silver shadowbox.

Alexander looked up at the girl, then looked at Rose, his dark eyes shining with an emotion so deep it made her heart overflow.

He reached out with his free hand, pulling Rose against his side, kissing her temple with infinite gentleness.

“What are you thinking, Donna Rose?” Alexander murmured softly.

Rose looked up at him, her lips curving into a radiant, beautiful smile.

“I was thinking about that afternoon on the grass, Alexander,” she whispered. “I was terrified that you would throw us into the street.”

Alexander smiled down at her, his baritone rich and steady as the tide.

“And you brought the light to this entire empire, Rose. For all of us.”
