Chapter 13 - TEARS OF GRACEStanding a few feet away on the grass, Luca watched the reunion unfold.

The ruthless mafia kingpin—a man who had ruled the underworld with an iron fist, who terrified senators and crushed syndicates without blinking—stood with his hands clasped behind his back, a single tear slowly tracing a path down his weathered cheek.

He didn't interrupt. He simply stood guard, a silent, unbreakable protector watching over our little family in the morning sun.

After a long moment, I pulled back gently, framing my daughter’s sweet face in my hands, kissing her forehead, her cheeks, her nose, laughing and crying all at once.

Lily giggled, reaching up with her tiny fingers to wipe a tear from my cheek. “Why are you crying, lady?”

“Because I missed you so much, angel,” I smiled, my voice cracking.

Just then, Marcus walked out onto the terrace, holding a secure satellite phone. He caught Luca’s eye and gave a sharp nod.

“Boss, local Italian authorities have secured all of Vanessa’s offshore assets and frozen her family's accounts. She’s currently being held under federal custody in Chicago pending extradition for federal kidnapping and medical trafficking.”

Luca took the phone, his expression cold and absolute. “Good. Make sure she stays there. Let the world know that anyone who preys on innocent children answers directly to Blackwell Enterprises.”

He hung up the phone and walked slowly across the grass toward us.

Lily turned her head, looking up at the tall, imposing man standing before her. For a second, she looked hesitant. But Luca dropped down gracefully onto one knee right beside the wooden bench, his tough, tattooed hands resting gently on his knees.

He didn't try to touch her. He just looked at her with a warmth and gentleness that completely transformed his severe face.

“Hello there, little one,” Luca said softly, his voice rich and steady.

Lily tilted her head, studying him with big, curious eyes. Then, reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a small, shiny yellow pebble she had found in the garden and held it out toward him.

“For you,” she said shyly.

Luca stared at the little pebble for a moment, touched beyond words. He gently accepted it from her tiny palm, closing his large fingers carefully around it.

“Thank you,” Luca whispered, smiling. “This is the best gift I’ve ever received.”
