Chapter 10 - Bloodlines Torn AsunderThe formal ratification of the new syndicate charter was celebrated during a private dinner in the grand ballroom on Christmas Eve.

There were no armed bodyguards checking identification at the gates. No tension in the air.
The long mahogany table was covered with a simple, elegant white linen cloth, illuminated by soft candlelight and decorated with fresh pine boughs, white calla lilies, and fragrant sprigs of rosemary.
Seated around the table were the people who truly represented the soul of our new life:
Frank Moretti, sitting tall and proud in his finest suit, enjoying a glass of vintage Barolo.
Toby, sitting beside Daniel, laughing as they discussed the new mechanical blueprints for the Pier 19 cranes.
Mrs. Carter and Dr. Harris, sitting as honored guests alongside senior union leaders from the docks.
And at the head of the table sat Luca Moretti.
At eight o'clock, Luca tapped his wine glass with a silver dessert spoon.
The room fell into an eager, affectionate hush.
Luca stood up, his deep baritone carrying clearly to every soul in the vaulted room.
“Twenty-four years ago,” Luca began, his gray eyes shining with an emotion so deep it made my heart overflow, “my father sat at this table and told his brothers that an empire is not measured by the ships in the harbor, but by the love in the house.”
He looked down at the gold locket resting over my heart, its platinum chain catching the candlelight.
“A father’s love cannot be burned on a dock. It cannot be stolen by greedy men. It cannot be buried under twenty-four years of silence.”
He raised his glass high into the air, looking directly at Toby, then at me.
“To Antonio Moretti. To Margaret. And to Maria, who carried the truth home.”
The entire room stood to their feet, raising their glasses in a thunderous, room-shaking toast that echoed off the vaulted ceilings:
“To Antonio! To Margaret! To Donna Maria! Viva la famiglia!”

Toby wiped tears of pure joy from his cheeks, while Frank clapped his hands with a booming laugh.
Luca walked around the table, wrapping his strong arms around Toby and me, pulling us tight against his chest in an embrace so fierce, so warm, and so unbreakable that every shadow of the past was extinguished forever.
