Chapter 10 - Bloodlines of the Boston DocksBy mid-February, the New England winter began to yield to the first signs of spring.

The ice in Boston Harbor broke into drifting floes, and the salt air carried the fresh, clean scent of open water.

Nora’s pregnancy had reached its thirty-seventh week.

Under the constant, dedicated care of Dr. Aris and her private medical team, her health had flourished. Her cheeks were radiant, her strength fully restored, and her days filled with peaceful walks along the private harbor boardwalk with Nathaniel.

On a quiet Tuesday evening, as a gentle rain pattered against the penthouse glass, Nora felt the first sharp, rhythmic contraction seize her lower abdomen.

She gasped, her hand flying to her belly.

Nathaniel was at her side before she could draw another breath.

His large hands caught her shoulders, steadying her with effortless power.

“Julianna?” Nathaniel asked, his voice low and instantly alert.

“It’s time, Nathaniel,” Nora breathed, clutching his forearms with a nervous, joyful thrill. “Thomas is coming.”

The penthouse mobilized with military precision.

Within ninety seconds, Dr. Aris and her obstetric team were in the private medical suite on the top floor, their equipment humming with quiet efficiency.

Nathaniel refused to leave his sister’s side.

The ruthless Iron Captain of Boston stripped off his jacket, rolled up his sleeves, and sat beside the bed, holding Nora’s hand in an unbreakable grip.

For seven hours of labor, he was her anchor.

He wiped the sweat from her brow.

He whispered words of fierce encouragement into her ear every time the pain threatened to overwhelm her.

And then, at 4:48 AM, as the first rays of dawn painted the Atlantic in shades of rose and gold, a clear, lusty cry echoed through the room.

Dr. Aris smiled radiantly, lifting a beautiful, healthy baby boy with thick dark hair and clear hazel eyes that mirrored his mother’s completely.

“He’s here, Julianna,” Nathaniel choked out, tears of raw, overwhelming emotion spilling over his lashes as the nurses placed his nephew onto Nora’s bare chest. “He’s here.”

Nora wept with a joy so vast, so profound, that every hardship, every cold night on the stone floor, and every tear she had ever cried dissolved into pure light.

Baby Thomas nestled against her skin, his tiny fingers curling tightly around Nathaniel’s scarred index finger.

Don Salvatore Falcone stepped into the room leaning on his cane, his eyes streaming with tears of gratitude as he looked upon the newborn heir.

He reached out, placing his weathered hand on the baby’s head, whispering an ancient maritime blessing:

“Welcome home, little captain. The sea is yours.”
