Chapter 15 - The True Mistress of the Vance FleetLater that evening, after the grand banquet at the Boston Harbor Hotel had wound down into soft music, clinking crystal, and lively laughter, Nathaniel and Nora stood together on the private master terrace of the penthouse.

A gentle summer breeze rustled the sheer curtains behind them, carrying the clean, crisp scent of ocean salt and the distant twinkling lights of the harbor below.
Inside the softly lit salon, Mrs. Higgins was sitting by the fire, holding baby Thomas in her arms, softly singing an ancient maritime lullaby as our little captain slept soundly against her chest.
Nathaniel held Nora close, his arm wrapped securely around her waist, his chin resting gently on her shoulder.
Nora’s fingers traced the engraved three-masted schooner on the gold pocket watch resting in her hand, the polished metal catching the silver glow of the summer moon.
“Are you tired, Donna Julianna?” Nathaniel whispered into her ear.
Nora leaned back against the broad, solid warmth of his chest, smiling up at the starlit sky, feeling the steady, rhythmic beat of his heart against her shoulder blades.
She thought of the freezing basement archive, the wet paper scraps, the shattered glass, and the moment a man with dark eyes had knelt in the puddle to pull his sister from the stone floor.
“Not anymore, Nathaniel,” she whispered back, turning in his arms to cup his rugged face in her hands. “Tonight, I’m finally home.”

He smiled—the soft, peaceful smile of a sovereign whose wars were won and whose soul was finally whole—and held his sister beneath the Atlantic stars.
