Chapter 14 - The Fall of the Thorne Dynasty

One month later, justice was formally delivered in the United States Federal Court in lower Manhattan.
Damian and I sat in the front row of the gallery, accompanied by our legal team and Marcus. Thomas Harrington sat beside me, his hands resting gracefully upon his polished brass cane, watching the proceedings with serene, dignified calm.
Standing before the judge in orange federal jumpsuits and heavy leg shackles were Vincent Thorne, Dominic Thorne, and Seraphina Thorne.
Their multi-million-dollar defense attorneys sat with heads bowed, unable to counter the overwhelming mountain of digital ledgers, forensic DNA evidence, and intercepted communications that Arthur Blackwood and Harrington had preserved.
The federal judge adjusted his glasses and banged his gavel with a resounding, final crack.
“On the counts of treason, federal racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder, and interstate corporate fraud,” the judge declared, his voice echoing through the silent courtroom, “the court finds the defendants guilty on all charges.”
Vincent Thorne was sentenced to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole. Dominic Thorne was sentenced to life imprisonment in a maximum-security facility.
And Seraphina Thorne was sentenced to thirty-five years at the federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, stripped of every cent, every diamond, and every title she had ever possessed.
As the federal marshals escorted the prisoners toward the holding cells, Seraphina turned back one last time. She saw me sitting beside Damian, wearing my mother’s tailored jacket, the massive Blackwood ancestral diamond sparkling on my finger, with Damian’s arm wrapped securely around my shoulders.
She realized, in that final, agonizing moment, that the girl she had ordered into the scullery had inherited everything she had ever coveted—not through cruelty and deceit, but through the unshakeable power of truth and loyalty.
Seraphina lowered her head, weeping silently, as the steel courtroom doors slammed shut behind her forever.
Outside the courthouse, hundreds of reporters and photographers flashed their cameras as Damian and I descended the granite steps. Damian held my hand tightly, shielding me from the press, guiding me toward our awaiting armored vehicle.
“Mr. Blackwood! Miss Stone!” a reporter shouted over the clamor. “What will happen to the Thorne assets?!”
Damian stopped at the bottom of the steps, turned to the cameras, and spoke with calm, absolute authority.
“The Thorne properties are being liquidated,” Damian announced. “Every dollar will be transferred into the Blackwood Charitable Trust to fund municipal healthcare facilities, veteran support organizations, and elderly care pavilions across New York.”

He turned to look at me, his eyes overflowing with love and pride. “And the trust will be administered personally by my wife, Maya Blackwood.”
