Chapter 13 - Cleaning House at the Caruso StrongholdOn the evening before the annual Outfit gala, our family gathered in the private dining room of the estate for a quiet, intimate celebration.

There were no bodyguards checking identification at the door. No armed sentries watching from the terrace.
The people gathered around the table were the true, honorable foundation of our new life:
Don Carmine Falcone, sitting tall and proud in his bespoke navy blazer, laughing as he shared stories of the old days with Marco.
Mrs. Higgins, sitting beside Clara, helping hold baby Antonio while Clara enjoyed her roasted chicken.
Dr. Aris, sitting as an honored guest alongside Assistant US Attorney Marcus Vance.
And at the head of the table sat Dante Caruso, looking more relaxed, powerful, and peaceful than he had ever appeared in his life.
At eight o'clock, Dante tapped his wine glass with his silver dessert spoon.
The room fell into an eager, affectionate hush.
Dante stood up, his deep, resonant baritone carrying clearly to every soul in the vaulted room.
“Twenty-four years ago,” Dante began, his hazel eyes shining with an emotion so deep it made Clara’s heart overflow, “this house was plunged into darkness by greed, treachery, and arson. We believed that an empire was built on fear, silence, and iron fists.”
He looked directly at Clara, his smile radiant and full of love.
“Lucia brought the truth back to this table. She reminded us that an empire that does not protect the people who carry its trays is an empire built on sand. She taught me that true power is the courage to stand unbroken when everyone else is silent.”
He raised his glass of Barolo high into the air.
“To Donna Carmela. To Lucia. And to Antonio, the future of our bloodline!”
Every single person in the room stood to their feet, raising their glasses in a joyous, heartfelt cheer:
“To Lucia! To Don Dante! Viva la famiglia!”

Clara wiped tears of pure joy from her cheeks, while Falcone raised his glass with a booming shout of triumph.
Dante walked around the table, pulling Clara and baby Antonio into his arms, kissing her forehead in a tender, lingering embrace that sealed our family's redemption forever.
