Chapter 13 - UNMASKING THE MASTERMIND BEHIND TWENTY-FOUR YEARS OF BLOODWith his allies abandoning him in total disgrace, Don Falcone’s final defenses crumbled into dust.

Don Bernardo walked forward, his heavy leather coat billowing in the wind. He took the ledger from my hands, inspected the signatures with reading glasses, and spat onto the stone at Falcone’s feet.
“The evidence is absolute,” Don Bernardo proclaimed, turning to the assembled bosses of the Five Families. “Don Falcone broke the sacred charter. He conspired with traitors, murdered the wife of our sovereign don, and attempted to assassinate his successor. Under the laws of the Five Families, his empire is forfeited, his name is erased from the registry, and his territory is surrendered to Dante Caruso.”
Falcone dropped his head, completely broken. The guards wheeled him away to face the permanent judgment of the council.
The twenty-four-year shadow that had hung over the Caruso dynasty was finally, permanently lifted.
Dante slowly lowered his weapon, clicking the safety back into place and returning it to his holster. He walked across the courtyard toward me, his eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that made the surrounding crowd of over one hundred men fade into complete insignificance.
He stopped in front of me, his hands reaching out to take both of mine. His fingers were warm, steady, and reverent.
“You walked between eighty loaded guns, Clara,” Dante whispered, his voice thick with awe and emotion. “You could have been killed.”
“I told you before, Dante,” I said, looking up into his dark eyes with a soft smile. “I don't let monsters destroy the people I care about.”

Dante smiled—a breathtaking, radiant smile that captured the hearts of every veteran soldier watching from the terrace.
“You didn't just save my life today, Clara,” Dante said softly. “You saved my soul.”
