Chapter 13 - The Alliance of the Two SyndicatesThe grand ballroom of the historic Grand Hotel in downtown Chicago was transformed into a breathtaking spectacle of white roses, crystal chandeliers, and gleaming gold accents.

Tonight marked the official formal ratification of the Grand Midwest Maritime Alliance—a historic treaty uniting the leading shipping syndicates of Genoa, Rome, and Chicago under a single, unbreakable commercial charter.

Delegates, international naval contractors, federal judges, and syndicate captains from across the globe filled the magnificent hall, mingling beneath the soaring vaulted ceilings.

Standing near the raised dais at the front of the room were the primary signatories of the alliance: Admiral Bellini representing the Italian naval sector, Gabriel Moretti overseeing regional security operations, and Luca Moretti standing tall and unyielding at the head of the delegation.

And standing right beside Luca, holding the gold-nibbed fountain pen used to ratify the treaty, was me.

I wore a stunning, custom-designed evening gown of deep emerald silk that shimmered under the crystal lights, its elegant silhouette reflecting both the strength and grace of my new life. Draped gently across my shoulders, as it had been through every storm, was Luca’s signature cashmere wrap.

“The final signature is yours, Madam Cartographer,” Admiral Bellini announced with a respectful bow, sliding the heavy leather-bound treaty document across the mahogany desk toward me.

I smiled, stepped forward, and signed my name—Rebecca Moretti—in elegant, sweeping cursive across the official ledger.

Thunderous applause erupted across the grand ballroom. Syndicate bosses stood up, raising their champagne flutes in unanimous salute, while Gabriel grinned proudly from ear to ear, giving me a subtle, brotherly wink.

Luca didn't clap. Instead, he stepped closer, sliding his arm around my waist, pulling me firmly against his side as his striking emerald eyes burned down at me with profound, undeniable adoration.

“You sign your new name beautifully, Mrs. Moretti,” Luca murmured softly, his breath brushing warm against my ear.

I looked up into his handsome face, a radiant smile touching my lips. “It has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?”

“The best ring in the world,” Luca replied, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss to my temple before raising his own crystal glass toward the cheering crowd of international delegates.

The dark days of scullery aprons, hostile takeovers, and midnight raids on the offshore terminal were nothing more than distant shadows now.

We had conquered the lake, defeated our enemies, and forged an empire built not on fear, but on an unshakeable, eternal love.

And as the orchestra began to play a slow, sweeping waltz across the grand ballroom floor, Luca pulled me into his arms, sweeping me into the first dance of our new, invincible dynasty.
