Chapter 10 - Bloodlines of the Chicago SyndicateTwo months later, on a crisp, sunlit Saturday afternoon, Dante, Bella, and Maya brought baby Thomas to the historic chapel overlooking the lake in Evanston.

The chapel was quiet, peaceful, and bathed in golden winter light that filtered through the century-old stained-glass windows.
We walked down a secluded gravel path until we reached a beautiful, shaded plot near the water’s edge.
Standing beneath a towering granite cross was the headstone of Thomas Lin:
Thomas Lin (1996–2026) — An Honest Man, A Father of Honor.
Fresh bouquets of white calla lilies, red roses, and fragrant sweet basil rested at the base of the stone.
Maya knelt beside her late husband’s headstone, holding baby Thomas wrapped in his Scottish wool blanket, resting her hand on the carved granite.
“We kept your name safe, Thomas,” Maya whispered softly through her tears. “Our boy is home. He will never know the dark.”
Dante knelt beside her on the gravel path, his hand resting respectfully on the stone.
“Your son carries your name, Thomas,” Dante said softly, his voice carrying clearly across the quiet churchyard. “He will inherit an empire of honor. In this house, your courage will never be forgotten.”
Bella knelt beside them, placing a small yellow plush duck beside the lilies on the stone—the identical toy Maya had carried through the flames on West 47th Street.
“Thank you, Thomas,” Bella murmured. “We will protect them forever.”
Dante stood up, pulling Maya and baby Thomas into his arms, wrapping his heavy wool overcoat around all three of them, shielding them from the lake wind.

He reached into his pocket and produced an antique silver pocket watch that had belonged to his father, sliding the chain into Maya’s palm.
“Our family is whole, Maya. The water will never rise above our heads.”
