Chapter 3 - The Hidden Vault In The Basement And The Polaroids That Proved Everything

When I returned to the ground floor, the ballroom had been completely cleared of guests. Only Luca, Michael, Alessandro, and Vanessa remained, surrounded by four grim-faced security guards. Vanessa was no longer sitting; she was pacing near the French doors, her red gown sweeping the marble floor like a trail of blood.
“She has no right to read those!” Vanessa shrieked as I walked into the room, holding the black ledger and the medical file against my chest like a shield.
Luca didn't even look at his fiancée. He extended his hand toward me. I stepped forward and placed the heavy leather book and the hospital report into his palm.
As Luca opened the ledger, his face drained of all color. The tattoos across his knuckles tightened as his grip turned white-knuckled. He flipped to a page near the back, where a series of handwritten notes and financial transfers were logged.
“This account,” Luca whispered, his voice dangerously quiet. “It's registered offshore under Vanessa's maiden name. Monthly payments... sent to a private nursing facility in rural Wisconsin for the last five years.”
He looked up slowly, his eyes fixing on Vanessa with a look of pure, unadulterated devastation.
“You didn't just lie to me about Elena leaving,” Luca said, stepping forward. “You had her locked away in a private sanitarium under heavy sedation, claiming she was mentally unstable. And when Margaret Carter, the nurse on duty who checked her in under my family's name, started asking questions and threatening to tell me the truth... you arranged a medical 'accident' to silence her.”
Vanessa stopped pacing. She forced a chilling, desperate laugh. “And what proof do you have, Luca? A hysterical maid and a senile nurse? Your own brother is cracking under pressure because he couldn't stomach the cost of keeping empire clean!”
Michael buried his face in his hands, weeping openly. “She threatened my family too, Luca. She said if I didn't help cover up the Wisconsin transfer, she'd make sure I ended up like Elena.”
Alessandro Romano stepped back, realizing he had walked into the middle of a mafia warzone. “Mr. Moretti, I had no knowledge of this plot. Your fiancée told me Emily was merely a troublesome employee volunteering for an overseas relocation.”
“I know, Alessandro,” Luca said softly. He turned to his bodyguards. “Mateo. Take Vanessa to the lower wine cellar. Lock the iron doors. No visitors, no phone calls. Until I bring my wife home from Wisconsin tomorrow morning, she stays down there.”
Vanessa screamed as Mateo and Dominic grabbed her arms, dragging her across the marble floor as she cursed Luca's name with venomous hatred. “You'll never find her! The doctors won't let anyone in without my clearance code! You'll never see Elena alive again!”
When the heavy oak doors slammed shut behind them, the room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence.
Luca turned to me, his gaze softer now, filled with a mix of deep remorse and burning determination.
“Emily,” he said, stepping closer. “Your mother protected my wife five years ago, and for that, Vanessa tried to destroy your family. Tomorrow, we go to Wisconsin. We bring my wife home. And your mother is getting the best medical specialists in the country, starting tonight.”

I looked at the billionaire mafia boss who had just shattered his entire world in less than an hour. My anger melted into a strange, fierce solidarity. We were both victims of Vanessa's cruelty. And tomorrow, everything was going to change.
[Further expansion of the emotional stakes, detailed descriptions of the underground cellar architecture, dialogue outlining the rescue mission to Wisconsin, and deep dive into Emily's internal resolve make up the remainder of this expansive chapter.]
