Chapter 11 - The Rescue Under the Neon RainThe rain began to pour again, turning the asphalt of the Pontchartrain Expressway into a slick, glistening ribbon under the afternoon storm clouds.

Inside the back of the speeding black van, my hands were bound tightly behind my back with heavy zip-ties, but my mind was racing with absolute fury. I refused to let these thugs use me to hurt Julian or harm my mother, who had been safely transferred to an armored medical transport just seconds before the men breached the room.

Suddenly, the screech of high-performance tires echoed over the roar of the engine.

A sleek, matte-black armored Maybach materialized out of the gray spray, surging alongside the van at over ninety miles per hour. Through the tinted passenger window, I caught a brief glimpse of Julian’s face—his eyes burning with cold, incandescent rage.

Bang! Bang!

Two rounds from a high-powered tactical rifle blew out the van’s front tires in a shower of sparks and shredded rubber. The driver screamed, losing control as the heavy vehicle swerved violently across three lanes of traffic before slamming sideways against the concrete retaining wall and coming to a grinding halt.

Before the dazed enforcers could recover, the rear doors of the van were ripped open with terrifying force.

Julian stood framed against the neon lights of the highway, rain soaking his dark suit, his expression resembling that of an avenging angel. With two swift, brutal strikes, he disarmed the guards, hauling the lead enforcer out onto the wet asphalt by his collar.

“Where is she?” Julian snarled, pressing his service pistol against the man’s forehead.

“In... in the back!” the thug choked out in sheer terror.

Julian didn't hesitate. He vaulted into the back of the van, sliced through my zip-ties with a tactical pocketknife, and pulled me into his arms, pressing me tightly against his broad chest.

“Are you hurt, Elena?” he asked, his voice trembling slightly for the first time in his life.

“I’m okay, Julian,” I whispered, burying my face against his shoulder. “Mom is safe. We’re both safe.”

Julian looked down at me, his pale green eyes softening with profound relief before hardening once more as police sirens wailed in the distance.
