Chapter 10 - Camilla’s Desperate GambleWhile the corporate takeover of the bank was broadcast live across national news networks, a dark, desperate plot was unfolding across town.

Unbeknownst to us, Camilla Dupont had managed to make a single encrypted phone call from the federal holding facility to her last remaining loyal enforcer—a disgraced ex-mercenary named Viktor who operated out of the warehouses near Lake Pontchartrain.
Her orders were simple and psychotic: If I’m going down, Julian Cross loses everything that matters to him.
At 2:30 PM, while I was visiting my mother at the hospice ward in Metairie to tell her the good news about our newfound security and her guaranteed medical care, two unmarked black vans pulled up outside the facility.
My phone buzzed violently in my coat pocket. It was an urgent text message from Julian’s chief security officer:
“Elena! Get away from the window! Camilla’s men have breached the facility. They’re coming for you and your mother!”

Before I could turn toward the door of my mother’s private room, the heavy oak door burst open with a splintering crash. Two masked men in tactical gear stepped inside, their weapons raised.
“Don’t move a muscle, sweetheart,” the lead enforcer snarled, grabbing my arm and yanking me backward. “The boss wants a word with Mr. Cross, and you’re going to be our ticket out of Louisiana.”
