Chapter 15 - The New Tsarina of the Volkov EmpireOne year later.

The grand ballroom of the Sovereign Tower had been transformed into an ethereal wonderland of white orchids, fragrant lilacs, and thousands of twinkling crystal lights.
It was the wedding celebration of the century.
There were no corrupt commissioners. No cartel hitmen hiding weapons beneath tuxedo jackets.
Instead, the four hundred guests assembled beneath the soaring chandeliers represented the true, honorable heart of the new Nevada:
Pediatric nurses, trauma surgeons, and medical residents from Valley Hospital sitting alongside veteran union electricians, dockworkers, and casino staff.
Capos from the northern syndicate, wearing tailored black suits, standing respectfully beside pediatric oncologists and community foundation directors.
At the altar, decorated with a magnificent arch of white wisteria and desert marigolds, stood Nikolai Volkov.
He looked breathtakingly handsome in an immaculate black tuxedo with a white rose pinned to his lapel, his gray eyes fixed on the double doors at the back of the ballroom with pure, undisguised adoration.
Beside him stood Vera, now six years old, looking like a little princess in a tiered white lace flower-girl dress, holding a basket of yellow rose petals.
The string quartet swelled into a majestic bridal processional.
The double doors opened.
Nina walked down the aisle on the arm of her proud, tearful father, a retired electrician who had never stood taller in his life.
Nina was a vision of breathtaking, radiant beauty.
Her gown was a custom masterpiece of French lace and ivory silk that flowed behind her in a dramatic, sweeping train. Her chestnut hair was crowned with an antique diamond tiara that had belonged to the Romanov dynasty, and around her neck rested the emerald teardrop choker that Nikolai had given her.
When she reached the altar, Nikolai stepped forward, taking her hand with steady, reverent care, lifting her veil with fingers that trembled faintly with overwhelming emotion.
“You take my breath away, my angel,” Nikolai whispered, his voice thick with love.
“You’re stuck with me forever now, Don Volkov,” Nina whispered back, her eyes dancing with radiant joy.
The archbishop smiled warmly, raising his hands in blessing over the couple and the little girl who stood between them holding both of their hands.
“We are gathered here today to witness the union of two souls whose courage defeated the darkness, and whose love built a sanctuary of life, honor, and healing for an entire city.”
They exchanged their sacred vows—words forged through fire, sacrifice, and the unbreakable bond of blood and devotion.
Nikolai slid a solid platinum band onto her finger beside the diamond and emerald ring.
“With this ring, Nina,” Nikolai vowed, his deep voice carrying clearly to every soul in the vaulted room, “I give you my life, my protection, my empire, and my heart. For as long as my heart beats, you will be my queen, my sanctuary, and my light. No shadow will ever touch your life, and no hand will ever harm what belongs to me.”
Nina placed his platinum band on his finger, looking into his eyes with complete, fearless devotion.
“With this ring, Nikolai, I promise to walk beside you in every battle, to heal you when you hurt, and to love you and Vera fiercely and completely until my final breath.”
“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the archbishop declared with a joyful smile. “You may kiss the bride.”
Nikolai wrapped his strong arms around her waist, lifting her slightly off the marble floor as his lips captured hers in a passionate, breathtaking kiss that brought the entire four hundred guests to their feet in thunderous, joyous applause.
Vera threw her basket of rose petals into the air, cheering with pure, boundless happiness.
Later that evening, after the grand feast of Russian delicacies, American fare, and champagne had wound down into soft music and clinking crystal, Nikolai, Nina, and Vera stood together on the private sixty-story observation terrace of the Sovereign Tower.
A gentle desert spring breeze rustled Nina’s lace veil, which she had draped over the stone balustrade.
Nikolai held Vera on his left hip, his right arm wrapped securely around Nina’s waist, pulling her against his side.
Far below, the neon lights of Las Vegas glittered like a sea of colorful jewels, peaceful, vibrant, and transformed under their protection.
“Are you happy, Mama Nina?” Vera whispered, resting her head against Nina’s shoulder.
Nina’s eyes filled with happy tears as she looked at the little girl who called her mother, then up into the handsome, peaceful face of the man who ruled her heart.
She reached out, gently touching the crook of her arm where the little puncture scar remained—the tiny mark that had rewritten the destiny of an entire empire.
“I have never been happier in my entire life, my sweet girl,” Nina whispered back, kissing Vera’s forehead.
Nikolai leaned down, his lips brushing against Nina’s temple, his voice carrying the deep, eternal peace of a warrior who had finally come home.
“To our family,” Nikolai whispered into the starlit night. “Forever whole. Forever protected.”
