Chapter 14 - The Ring on the Music Stand

He reached into his jacket pocket.

He placed a small velvet box on the wooden music stand, right above the newly

restored middle C.

He opened the lid.

Inside was not a flashy socialite diamond like Vanessa’s.

It was an exquisite antique platinum ring, featuring a brilliant, flawless

sapphire surrounded by tiny carved mother-of-pearl petals.

A ring that looked like a blooming blue flower.

Elena Moretti’s engagement ring.

“My mother told my father that love isn't something you buy,” Luca whispered,

his voice thick with emotion.

“It’s something you protect with your life.”

He slipped from the bench and knelt on one knee before me on the polished

parquet floor.

The king of Chicago.

Bowing before the woman who had scrubbed his floors and restored his heart.

“Emma Sullivan,” Luca said, his silver eyes shining with pure devotion.

“Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? Will you rule this house beside

me?”

Tears of overwhelming happiness spilled down my cheeks.

I looked at the restored piano.

I looked at the man who had torn an empire apart to defend his family and me.

“Yes,” I choked out, smiling through my tears.

“Yes, Luca. Always.”

He slid the ring onto my finger.

It was a perfect fit.

He stood up, wrapping his powerful arms around my waist, lifting me off the

bench as his lips met mine in a deep, breathtaking kiss.
