Chapter 9 - The Song Elena Taught Him

Luca placed Elena’s diary on the center of the council table.
Beside it, he set the six-piece ivory hair comb.
“Seventeen years ago, Alberto Bellini murdered my mother with digitalis,” Luca
stated clearly.
“Here are the toxicology reports stamped by the county coroner he bribed.”
Don Lucchese picked up the papers.
His weathered face turned to stone as he read the pathologist's notes.
“And last night,” Luca continued, pointing at Vanessa, “his daughter abducted my
sister Isabella, attempting to extort the Chicago port authorities.”
He pointed at the comb.
“She carved my mother’s piano to mock our family before the kill.”
Vanessa broke into hysterics.
“Daddy told me to do it! He said we needed the shipping lines before the feds
froze our offshore accounts!”
Alberto Bellini lunged across the table to strike his daughter, but Marco pinned
him to the chair with a forearm across his throat.
Don Lucchese stood up.
He looked around the table of fifty hardened mafia lords.
Every man wore an expression of cold, unyielding disgust.
“The Bellini family has broken the foundational laws of the Southern and
Midwestern families,” Lucchese declared.
“Murder of a Donna. Extortion of a daughter. Desecration of the house.”
Lucchese looked at Alberto Bellini.
“Your assets are forfeit to the Moretti family. Your name is struck from the
council.”
He looked at the waiting federal marshals standing in the back of the hall.
“Hand them to the authorities. Let them rot in solitary confinement.”
Alberto and Vanessa were dragged out in iron cuffs, their screams echoing down

the marble corridors of the Drake.
Justice had finally arrived.
