Chapter 10 - Bloodlines of the Vance DynastyBy late February, the Chicago winter began to yield to the first signs of spring.

The ice on Lake Michigan broke into drifting turquoise floes beneath a clear sky, and the gardens of the Vance compound burst into bloom with early snowdrops and fragrant crocuses.

Nora’s pregnancy had reached its thirty-eighth week.

Under the constant, dedicated care of Dr. Aris and her private medical team, her health had flourished. Her cheeks were radiant with health, her strength had fully returned, and her days were filled with peaceful walks through the sunlit grounds.

On a quiet Thursday evening, as a gentle spring breeze rustled the sheer curtains of the master suite, Nora felt the first sharp, rhythmic contraction seize her lower abdomen.

She gasped, her hand flying to her belly.

Julian was beside her within half a second.

His large hands caught her shoulders, steadying her with effortless strength as another contraction rolled through her body.

“Sophia?” Julian asked, his voice low and instantly alert.

“It’s time, Julian,” Nora breathed, clutching his forearms with a nervous, joyful thrill. “Leo is coming.”

The estate mobilized with military precision.

Within ninety seconds, Dr. Aris and her three obstetric nurses were in the private medical suite on the second floor, their monitoring equipment humming with quiet efficiency.

Julian refused to leave his sister’s side.

The ruthless Silent Sovereign of Chicago stripped off his jacket, rolled up his sleeves, and sat on the edge of the delivery bed, holding Nora’s hand in an unbreakable, supportive grip.

For six hours of labor, he was her anchor.

He wiped the sweat from her brow with a cool cloth.

He whispered words of fierce encouragement into her ear every time the pain threatened to overwhelm her.

And then, at 5:18 AM, as the first rays of dawn painted Lake Michigan in shades of rose and gold, a clear, lusty cry echoed through the room.

Dr. Aris smiled radiantly, lifting a beautiful, healthy baby boy with thick dark curls and bright hazel eyes that mirrored his mother’s completely.

“He’s here, Sophia,” Julian choked out, tears of raw, overwhelming emotion spilling over his lashes as the nurses placed his nephew onto Nora’s bare chest. “He’s here.”

Nora wept with a joy so vast, so profound, that every hardship, every cold night on the archive floor, and every tear she had ever cried dissolved into pure light.

Baby Leo nestled against her skin, his tiny fingers curling tightly around Julian’s scarred index finger.

Don Carmine Falcone stepped into the room leaning on his cane, his eyes streaming with tears of gratitude as he looked upon the newborn heir.

He reached out, placing his weathered hand on the baby’s head, whispering an ancient Sicilian blessing:

“Welcome home, little falcon. The empire is yours.”
