Chapter 11 - The Fall of the Montgomery EmpireTwo months later, the federal trials of Arthur Montgomery and Victoria Montgomery concluded with historic, devastating efficiency.

With the recovery of the 1996 dry dock work orders, the uncashed promissory notes, and the encrypted banking ledgers from the brass box, the jury deliberated for less than forty-five minutes before returning guilty verdicts on all counts.

Arthur Montgomery was sentenced to consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole at ADX Florence in Colorado.

Victoria Montgomery was sentenced to thirty-two years at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit extortion, and felony fraud.

Their multi-billion-dollar maritime syndicate, their private luxury penthouses on Michigan Avenue, and their offshore shell corporations were completely liquidated by federal court decree, with eighty percent of the proceeds transferred directly into the Francesca Vance Pediatric Foundation.

On the afternoon following the sentencing, Julian took Nora down to the newly restored shipping berths at Pier 8.

The old, neglected warehouses where contraband had once been moved were completely cleared away.

In their place stood a magnificent, state-of-the-art logistics terminal and community center constructed from red brick, polished steel, and expansive glass windows overlooking Lake Michigan.

Above the main entrance, carved in gleaming white Vermont marble, were the words:

THE FRANCESCA AND SOPHIA VANCE MARITIME LOGISTICS CENTER — WHERE TRUTH IS RESTORED AND COURAGE RULES FOREVER.

Julian stood beside Nora on the boardwalk, his hand resting gently on her shoulder, while Mrs. Gable held baby Leo in her arms nearby.

“What do you think, Sophia?” Julian asked softly, looking up at the marble inscription.

“It’s beautiful, Julian,” she whispered, tears of profound peace stinging her eyes. “Our mother would be so proud.”

“She is here, Sophia,” Julian smiled, pulling her close against his side as the warm lake breeze ruffled their hair. “Every time an honest ship sails into this harbor, she will always be here.”
