Chapter 12 - The Fall of the House of Vance

Two months later, federal justice was officially delivered in the United States District Court in downtown Chicago.

Senator Thomas Vance was sentenced to four consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole at ADX Florence in Colorado.

Richard Vance was sentenced to three consecutive life terms for federal racketeering, weapons trafficking, and armed insurrection.

And Evelyn Vance was sentenced to thirty-two years at the federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, stripped of all personal wealth, couture wardrobes, and social status.

Her designer gowns were traded for coarse orange prison jumpsuits, her manicured fingers assigned to daily maintenance shifts in the prison laundry—the very labor she had mocked when she threatened to strip my uniform at the engagement dinner.

On the day the sentencing was broadcast across national television channels, the city of Detroit celebrated with street festivals along the riverfront.

The corrupt predators who had burned small businesses and terrorized honest families for decades were behind concrete walls forever.

Under Matteo’s direct instruction, seventy-five percent of the seized Vance commercial capital was transferred into the newly chartered Salvatore Bellini Culinary & Community Foundation.

The foundation established fully funded culinary academies across working-class neighborhoods in Detroit and Chicago, providing free culinary training, small-business grants, and housing support for the families of service workers.

On the day the foundation opened its doors in Detroit, I cut the ceremonial ribbon with my father’s restored cleaver, surrounded by cheering culinary students, community leaders, and veteran chefs who had known my father for thirty years.

I stood beside Matteo in the crowd, watching the students light the commercial stoves, tears of boundless gratitude misting my eyes.

“He would have loved this, Matteo,” I whispered softly, leaning against his arm.

“He is smiling down on you right now, my love,” Matteo replied, kissing my temple.
