Chapter 7 - The Ultimatum

Back at the Castellano estate, the mood was far from celebratory. The attack at the gala proved that Salvatore Rossi was no longer just a rival businessman—he was an existential threat who would stop at nothing to destroy Dominic and everyone he cared about.

We sat in Dominic’s private, heavily fortified study. The room was lined with antique mahogany bookshelves, leather armchairs, and a roaring fireplace that cast flickering golden light across the walls. Zeus lay comfortably stretched out on the Persian rug in front of the hearth, sound asleep, completely oblivious to the war raging around us.

Dominic poured two glasses of amber whiskey, handing one to me before leaning against the edge of his mahogany desk. His face was etched with deep, exhausted lines, his dark hair slightly disheveled.

"Rossi crossed a line tonight," Dominic said quietly, swirling the liquid in his glass without drinking. "He brought violence into a public space, endangering innocent people, and targeting you directly. This war ends tonight."

"What are you going to do?" I asked, taking a small sip of the smooth, burning whiskey that warmed my chest.

"I'm going to dismantle his entire organization," Dominic stated, his espresso eyes burning with absolute, chilling finality. "Every warehouse, every financial account, every underground operation. I’m cutting off his head before he can try to touch you again."

I set my glass down on the desk and walked over to stand right in front of him. I reached out, gently placing my hand over his clenched fist, feeling the tension vibrating through his knuckles.

"You can't go after him alone, Dominic. That's what he wants—to draw you out into an ambush," I said softly, looking straight into his eyes. "You need a strategy, not just brute force."

Dominic looked down at my hand resting on his, his expression softening instantly. He turned his hand over, intertwining his fingers securely with mine. "You sound less like a waitress and more like a tactical commander every single day, Addison."

"I told you, I'm good at reading aggressive behavior and dangerous environments," I smiled faintly. "And right now, your stress levels are through the roof. You need to breathe."

Dominic let out a low, weary laugh, pulling me slightly closer by our joined hands. "You saved my life twice, you tamed a monster of a dog that everyone else gave up on, and now you're lecturing a mafia boss in his own study. Who are you really, Addison?"

"Just an unemployed animal behaviorist who happened to step into the wrong kitchen at the right time," I whispered, our faces inches apart.

Before Dominic could lean in to close the distance, the heavy mahogany door of the study flew open. A breathless guard stumbled inside, looking pale and frantic.

"Boss! We intercept an encrypted transmission from Rossi's flagship compound! He’s calling in all his remaining enforcers for a final siege on our estate tonight. And... he has hostages."

Dominic’s grip on my hand tightened until it almost hurt. "Who?"

"Your sister, Elena. And... they've cornered our supply trucks on the Chicago riverfront."
