Chapter 12 - The Reckoning at the WharfThree weeks later, the threat materialized with terrifying speed.

It was a moonless Friday night when emergency alarms began pinging across the Bellini Foundation’s central security network. Three cargo container shipments originating from international transit lines controlled by Petrov’s syndicate had been flagged at Berth 12. Local port authorities discovered they had been tampered with, containing unregistered industrial cargo designed to trigger a federal customs investigation and freeze the foundation's operating licenses.
If the customs agents arrived at dawn, the foundation would be locked down, and months of legal restructuring would collapse overnight.
I rushed into the secure command center in the basement of the Beacon Hill townhouse, where Dante and three of his tactical advisors were already reviewing live security feeds from the docks.
“It’s a trap,” I said, leaning over the console as I cross-referenced the manifest serial numbers with the digital financial records I had audited the previous week. “Look at the transaction codes on the customs filing. Petrov didn't just smuggle the cargo in—he used a dummy shell company registered under an old Finch subsidiary that hasn't been liquidated yet. He’s trying to tie the syndicate back to your foundation legally.”
Dante looked up from the monitors, his obsidian eyes locking onto mine with fierce, unyielding clarity. “If we call the federal marshals now, they’ll seize the entire shipping terminal for a six-month investigation, freezing the dockworkers' payroll and cutting off Mr. Callahan’s pension trust.”
“Then we don't call the feds,” I said, my voice steadying with a sudden, resolute calm. “We intercept the container transfer before the port inspectors dock their cruisers.”

Dante stared at me for a long moment, a slow, dangerous smile breaking across his lips. He stood up to his full six-foot-four height, pulling his leather holster and service weapon from the wall safe.
“Get your coat, Clara,” Dante said, his voice echoing with absolute authority. “We’re going down to the harbor.”
