THE MAFIA'S FROZEN EMPRESS / Chapter 13 / 15

Chapter 13 - Cleaning House along the RhoneThe following three weeks were a whirlwind of joyous celebration and new beginnings.

Under Seraphina’s direction, the Moretti Foundation established an independent legal defense clinic in Geneva—providing free tenant defense, medical advocacy, and emergency financial relief for working-class families facing predatory corporate eviction.

The domestic and technical staff at the Restoration Institute and Moretti Freight were given permanent employment contracts with full pension benefits, union wages, and comprehensive healthcare coverage under the newly chartered Moretti Alpine Accord.

Mrs. Gable was promoted to Chief of Estate Administration, overseeing a fully staffed, respectful household where no worker was ever treated as an invisible servant.

One Saturday morning in July, Seraphina walked into the grand ballroom of the chateau.

The room had been completely remodeled, its dark, foreboding tapestries replaced with warm cream linen and expansive glass viewing bays overlooking the lake.

Beside the central fireplace rested a custom silver shadowbox lined with dark red velvet, with a brass plaque reading:

THE SEVERED SUEDE OF GENEVA — DEDICATED TO SERAPHINA MORETTI, WHOSE COURAGE SAVED THE ALPINE EMPIRE.

Inside the shadowbox, preserved beneath museum-grade crystal, were the sheared titanium rivets and cut suede of her working tunic from that fateful night, polished and clean, mounted beside an antique pair of silver jewelers' calipers.

Seraphina stood before the shadowbox, her fingers gently touching the crystal, feeling no pain, no fear—only the deep, unshakeable triumph of a family that had walked through the fire and emerged unbroken.

Footsteps sounded softly on the quartzite floor.

Gabriel walked into the salon, carrying eight-year-old Bella on his broad shoulders.

Bella reached down, giggling happily, her tiny fingers tangling in her father’s dark hair, before pointing toward the silver shadowbox.

Gabriel looked up at his daughter, then looked at Seraphina, his obsidian eyes shining with an emotion so deep it made her heart overflow.

He reached out with his free hand, pulling Seraphina against his side, kissing her temple with infinite gentleness.

“What are you thinking, Donna Seraphina?” Gabriel murmured softly.

Seraphina looked up at him, her lips curving into a radiant, beautiful smile.

“I was thinking about that night, Gabriel,” she whispered. “I told Vivienne that servants handle the debris of empires, but we build the ones that endure.”

May you like

Gabriel smiled down at her, his baritone rich and steady as the mountain rock.

“And you built an empire that will stand for a thousand years, Seraphina. For all of us.”
