THE MAFIA'S FROZEN EMPRESS / Chapter 6 / 15

Chapter 6 - The Council of Alpine DynastsBy 1:30 AM, the chateau had entered a state of complete, silent mobilization.

The thirty civilian guests had been dismissed under armed military escort, having signed emergency non-disclosure covenants and ratified the transfer of all former von Berg foundries into the newly chartered Seraphina Moretti Industrial and Cultural Trust.

In the private master library of the high chateau overlooking the frozen lake, a massive fire of split larch wood crackled in the carved granite hearth, casting warm, amber light across ancient navigational charts, bound leather volumes, and drafting tables.

Seraphina sat in the deep leather wingback chair beside the hearth, holding a warm cup of chamomile tea that Henri—the elderly archivist—had brought from the private pantry with tears of pure, disbelieving joy in his eyes.

Across her knees rested a floor-length velvet wrap of deep royal navy, lined with pure arctic fox fur, that General Keller had personally retrieved from the flagship transport thirty minutes earlier.

The shredded suede tunic was gone, replaced by a simple, elegant gown of dark-emerald wool that draped softly over her slender frame.

Gabriel sat on the low mahogany chest opposite her, having rolled his white dress shirtsleeves up over his corded, ink-stained forearms, his hands holding hers with steady, quiet warmth.

“How are your ribs feeling, Seraphina?” he asked softly, his dark eyes searching hers with profound, protective care.

“They feel light, Gabriel,” she whispered, a radiant smile touching her lips. “For five months, I was an uncredited restorer in the dust of the annex, watching arrogant men sign contracts for treasures they could never understand. Tonight, the shadows are gone.”

Gabriel leaned forward, bringing her hands to his lips, kissing her knuckles with unyielding reverence.

“You were never an uncredited restorer, my love,” he murmured, his deep baritone rumbling pleasantly in the quiet room. “You were the brain of this empire. While I was fighting wars in the rail terminals of Vienna, you were designing the steel and preserving the honor that keeps our people alive.”

The heavy oak doors clicked open softly.

Frank walked into the library, holding an encrypted satellite tablet displaying live logistics feeds.

“Don Gabriel, Donna Seraphina,” Frank reported crisply, bowing his head. “The federal prosecutors have completed the seizure of the von Berg foundries in Zurich. Heinrich von Berg’s foreign accounts have been frozen by international decree. Over three hundred and forty million francs in recovered capital has been transferred into the Moretti Trust.”

Gabriel nodded once with absolute, final satisfaction.

“And the four hundred guild workers in the restoration annex, Frank?”

“All four hundred have been signed to permanent contracts under Donna Seraphina’s new charter, boss. Full pension protections, thirty-five percent wage increases, and guaranteed safety oversight. Henri has been named Chief Inspector of the Cantonal Guild.”

Seraphina looked down at the original 1888 vellum patent resting securely on the table beside her.

She reached out, her fingers gently touching the clean wax seal of the Confederation.

“Tell the guild workers that the new laboratory is named the Field Marshal Vittorio Moretti Institute,” Seraphina smiled, her ice-gray eyes shining with tears of pure peace. “And that no craftsman with scarred hands will ever be discarded in these valleys again.”
