Chapter 15 - The End of the Shadow War

The private Gulfstream jet soared smoothly through the golden morning clouds as it crossed back over the American coastline, heading home toward New York.
I sat quietly in the leather passenger seat, staring out the window at the vast, peaceful expanse of the sky. The global threat of the Eastern Syndicate was permanently broken. Their directors were currently sitting in maximum-security federal custody, facing life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. My empire was secure, my mind was entirely my own, and the shadows that had haunted my existence for three long years had been completely swept away by fire and absolute truth.
When the jet touched down on the private runway of the Moretti estate, the morning sun was casting a brilliant, warm glow across the sprawling manicured lawns.
As I stepped out onto the tarmac, I saw Anna and little Sophie waiting near the private hangar. Sophie was holding a fresh yellow coloring book, her dark curls bouncing in the gentle morning breeze as she ran toward me with a bright, joyful smile.
"Mr. Moretti! You're back!" Sophie called out, stopping a few feet away and looking up at me with wide, innocent eyes.
I crouched down, meeting the little girl at eye level, and smiled—a genuine, unburdened smile that reached my eyes. I gently tapped the tip of her small nose, feeling the profound warmth of absolute freedom.
"I'm back, little one," I said softly, looking out over the peaceful estate where I was finally, truly the master of my own destiny. "And everything is going to be just fine."

Anna walked up slowly, offering a warm, grateful nod. The nightmare was finally over. The puppet had cut his strings, and the king had reclaimed his throne.
