Chapter 11 - Facing the Truth No One Dared to Speak

The clock struck 2:00 AM as Luca’s armored convoy rolled through the iron gates of Salvatore Rossi’s sprawling waterfront estate on the outskirts of Chicago. There were no negotiations left, no polite warnings, and no room for compromise. Rossi had broken the ancient code of the syndicate by targeting a family matriarch and attempting a cowardly inside assassination.
I sat in the passenger seat of Luca’s custom vehicle, refusing to stay behind at the mansion while he went into battle. He had argued against it at first, but one look into my determined eyes had made him realize that I wasn't just a maid anymore—I was his equal partner in survival.
“Stay in the car when we pull up,” Luca instructed firmly, keeping his hands steady on the steering wheel as he checked the magazine of his sidearm. “Rossi’s men are dug in deep, but this ends tonight.”
“I’ll stay put,” I nodded, resting my hand over his on the center console. “Just... promise me you’ll be careful.”
Luca turned his head, capturing my gaze with intense, unwavering devotion. He leaned over and pressed a deep, fierce kiss to my lips—a silent promise that no matter what happened inside that mansion, he would return to me.
Minutes later, the heavy iron gates of Rossi’s estate gave way under the bumper of our lead vehicle. The ensuing firefight was swift and decisive. Luca’s elite tactical force overwhelmed Rossi’s guards before they even had time to fully man their defensive positions.
Within twenty minutes, the estate was secure.
Luca kicked open the massive double doors of Rossi’s private study. The aging mafia don sat behind his mahogany desk, pouring a glass of scotch with shaking hands, knowing his time had run out.
“You’re young, Luca,” Rossi rasped, forcing a bitter smile as Luca stepped into the room with his pistol drawn. “You think wiping me out solves everything? The commission will tear your empire apart from the outside.”
“The commission answers to me now,” Luca replied coldly, stepping closer. “You broke the code, Salvatore. You targeted my mother. And you tried to burn my house down from the inside.”
“I wanted what was mine,” Rossi sneered.
“You get nothing,” Luca said flatly. Then, signaling his capos to secure the trembling Don, Luca turned on his heel and walked out into the cool night air, leaving the remnants of the old guard behind forever.
The war was over. The Chicago underworld had a new, undisputed king—one who ruled not out of blind cruelty, but out of absolute protection for those he loved.

When Luca climbed back into the car, his expression was softer, the heavy burden of war finally lifting from his broad shoulders. He looked at me, and for the first time in months, a true, radiant smile touched his face.
“It's over, Hannah,” he whispered, reaching out to stroke my cheek. “We’re finally safe.”
