Chapter 14 - The Unbroken Circle

The early morning fog rolled lazily over the manicured lawns of the estate, wrapping the ancient stone walls and towering cypress trees in a soft blanket of white mist. I walked alone down the stone pathway leading from the main house toward the private family chapel and the historic memorial gardens where Luca’s parents were laid to rest. Luca walked beside me, his hand firmly holding mine, our footsteps crunching softly against the gravel path. We stopped before the polished marble memorial of his late father—the hardworking immigrant who had started a small neighborhood diner forty years ago with nothing more than a dream and a stove. Luca reached out, placing a single, fresh white rose upon the cool stone surface. “He would have loved you, Emily,” Luca whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “He would have recognized the same strength in you that carried our family through every hardship.” I squeezed his hand tightly, looking up at the stone engraving that bore the Moretti family crest. “My grandmother taught me that words are the armor of the working class,” I said softly. “But standing here with you, I’ve learned that true strength is found in the people you choose to protect.” Luca pulled me close against his side, pressing a soft kiss to the top of my head as the first rays of golden sunlight broke through the morning fog, illuminating the sprawling, prosperous empire we now shared together.
