Chapter 13 - A Home in Lincoln Park

Two weeks before our wedding, Luca surprised my father and me with a drive to Lincoln Park.
The car pulled up before a magnificent, sun-drenched three-story brownstone surrounded by towering oak trees, its private garden overlooking the tranquil waters of the park lagoon.
Luca handed a heavy brass key to my father.
“What is this, Luca?” my father asked, turning the polished metal in his calloused hand.
“This is your home, David,” Luca replied warmly, placing an arm around my father’s shoulders. “Completely renovated with a private ground-floor physical therapy suite, an elevator, and a heated greenhouse for your tomato plants.”
My father looked at the beautiful house, then looked at Luca, his chin trembling with emotion as tears welled in his eyes.
“Luca... son... I can't accept this. This house is worth millions.”
“You raised the woman who saved my soul, David,” Luca said gently. “You worked forty years in steel mills so Emma could grow up with honor. In this family, a father’s labor is repaid with the finest home this city has to offer.”
My father embraced Luca fiercely, weeping tears of profound relief and gratitude.

I stood beside them, holding Luca’s arm, my heart overflowing with an unshakeable love for the man who had transformed our lives from a desperate struggle into a glorious sanctuary.
