Chapter 13 - The Final Threat Neutralized

Julian strode across the foyer, stopping just inches away from me. The lingering scent of rain, ozone, and danger clung to his tailored jacket. "The Biloxi yard is secure," Julian said, his voice deep and steady. "Viktor Petrov’s regional cell has been completely dismantled. Their container ships are impounded, and federal authorities have seized every last asset." I let out a long, shaky breath of pure relief, my hands trembling slightly. "Thank God... I was worried sick." Julian’s expression softened instantly. He reached out, his warm fingers gently cupping my cheek, tracing the line of my jaw with a tenderness that completely contrasted with his formidable reputation. "You were worried about me?" he murmured softly. "Always," I whispered, looking straight into his eyes. Leo cleared his throat loudly from the doorway, grinning from ear to ear as he tossed a set of keys onto the console table. "Well, since the syndicate is dismantled, the federal marshals are packing up, and my older brother has finally stopped glaring at everyone who breathes near him, I’m going to sleep for a week. See you both at breakfast!" With a cheerful wave, Leo turned and headed up the grand staircase, leaving Julian and me alone in the quiet, candlelit foyer. The silence between us was no longer heavy with tension, but charged with a profound, unspoken mutual devotion forged in the crucible of betrayal and survival.
