Chapter 11 - THE ULTIMATE CONFRONTATION IN THE GRAND BALLROOM

The grand ballroom of the Blackwell downtown estate was normally a venue for charity galas and high-society fundraisers. Tonight, it served as the neutral ground for a high-stakes tribunal of the national syndicate elders. Six powerful men, draped in expensive Italian suits and surrounded by their elite bodyguards, sat around a massive mahogany conference table under the soaring crystal chandelier. The heavy double doors swung open with a resounding thud. Damon Blackwell walked in, his long black coat billowing behind him like the wings of a dark angel. I walked right beside him, my cast removed earlier that day, wearing a sleek, tailored navy dress that Marcus had procured for the occasion. The silence in the room was deafening. "Damon," spoke Salvatore Rossi, the aging patriarch of the New York faction, leaning heavily on a gold-handled cane. "Word travels fast across the eastern seaboard. You dismantled a U.S. senator's entire operation over a domestic dispute involving a household maid. Have you lost your mind?" Damon didn't flinch. He walked slowly to the head of the table, resting his palms on the polished wood, towering over the seated elders. "You built your empires on greed and careless violence, Salvatore," Damon replied, his voice echoing smoothly across the cavernous room. "I built mine on absolute loyalty and absolute control. If anyone touches a person under my roof, they do not just lose a battle—they cease to exist from the history books. Let that be a lesson to anyone who mistakes my discretion for weakness." Rossi's face flushed a deep, mottled red, his lips parting to launch a furious rebuttal, but when he looked into Damon's unblinking, predatory eyes, all the fight drained out of him. The old man slumped back in his chair, lowering his gaze in silent submission. "The Blackwell territory remains undisputed," Rossi muttered grudgingly. Damon gave a single, curt nod, turned on his heel, and extended his hand to me. I placed my hand in his, and together, we walked out of the ballroom, leaving the most powerful syndicate bosses in the country trembling in our wake.
