Chapter 15 - The New Mistress of Blackwood TowerThe wedding ceremony on the lawn was pure poetry.

Under a canopy of white wisteria and yellow citrus blossoms, surrounded by the people who loved us, Damian and I exchanged our vows.

When the priest asked for the rings, Gabriel stepped forward, holding an antique velvet box.

Inside rested two platinum bands, each engraved with Alyssa’s favorite proverb:

Truth is the sweetest fruit of all.

Damian took my hand, sliding the diamond-encrusted band onto my finger with steady, reverent care.

“With this ring, Maya,” Damian vowed, his deep voice carrying clearly across the quiet lawn, “I give you my life, my name, my empire, and my heart. For as long as we both shall live, you will never walk alone, and no shadow will ever touch your light.”

Tears of pure happiness rolled down my cheeks as I slipped his band onto his finger.

“With this ring, Damian, I promise to stand beside you in every storm, to walk with you in the light, and to love you fiercely and completely until the end of time.”

“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the priest declared with a joyful smile. “You may kiss the bride.”

Damian wrapped his strong arms around my waist, lifting me slightly off the ground as his lips captured mine in a passionate, breathtaking kiss that sealed our destiny forever.

The lawn erupted into thunderous cheers, clinking champagne glasses, and joyous applause that echoed across the Hudson River.

Later that evening, the grand reception hall was filled with music and dancing.

At the center of the head table sat a magnificent, five-tiered wedding cake designed and baked by my apprentices and me.

Each tier was infused with Meyer lemon curd, wild mountain honey, and crowned with delicate, paper-thin ribbons of golden caramelized ginger that had simmered for exactly forty minutes.

Damian cut the first slice with a silver knife, feeding me a small bite before taking one himself.

He closed his eyes, savoring the perfect balance of sweet citrus, honey, and warm spice.

When he opened his eyes, he looked directly at Alyssa’s portrait across the room, raising his champagne glass in a silent, loving toast.

Then he turned to me, wrapping his arm around my waist, his eyes shining with complete, unshakable devotion.

“To my wife,” Damian announced, his voice carrying above the music to every soul gathered in the room. “The true donna of the Blackwood empire, and the queen of my heart.”

The room erupted into cheers once again.

Hand in hand, Damian and I stepped onto the terrace beneath the starlit sky, looking out over the sparkling river below, ready to live the beautiful, honest life we had fought so bravely to claim.
